THE WATER AND ITS PH

Water is the nourishment our body most needs and it has an essential role for good health. During one’s lifetime, a person drinks a quantity of water that is six hundred times his body weight. But all waters are not the same and they do not all have the same pH.

The pH is a scale of measurement for the acidity and alkalinity (basicity) of a solution.

From 0 to 7, the water is more acidic.
From 7 to 14, it’s more alkaline (or basic)
If the pH is 7, it’s neutral.

THE METABOLISM

Metabolism represents the overall processes with which our body manages to use what it swallows in order to satisfy its vital needs. The balance between acids and bases is fundamental for the normal functioning of our metabolism, which is performed in an easily alkaline environment, in an interval between a pH of 7,35 and 7,45.
When the balance is disrupted, a degree of alkalosis or metabolic alkalosis appears. In contemporary society, we are especially exposed to metabolic alkalosis, which is usually produced by bad eating habits (little fruit and vegetables, an excess of meat and cheese), the consumption of alcohol and cigarettes, a sedentary life, physical and psychical stress, the consumption of medicine and an unbalanced intestinal flora.

“BUFFER SYSTEMS”

The body has different “buffer systems” that allow one to fight against metabolic acidosis, but in a few cases (excess production of acids, old age or hormonal changes of woman during menopause) make it function less efficiently. Because of this, an emergency system of the body interferes, taking the mineral salt from the bones, and restoring the correct acid-base balance. But this procedure weakens the bone, so, in time, the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures increases. The consumption of alkaline mineral water can help the body restore the pH balance, reducing the risk of using the emergency system that weakens the bone.

* CONSIDER THAT:
The tendency of a food that acidifies or alkalizes our body has no relation to the real pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, but the final effect they produce after digestion and assimilation is very alkaline, so lemons form alkalinity in the body. In the same way, meat is alkaline before the digestion, but it leaves a very acid residue in the body, so, like almost all animal products, meat forms a great amount of acid.
