THE MOUNT MANIVA DISTRICT

We want to offer everyone the possibility to experience this unique place and all it has to offer: mouth-watering Bagoss cheese, the magical Bagolino Carnival, the unspoilt beauty of our landscape and the freshness of our beloved mineral water.

MOUNT MANIVA
IN THE WINTER

Easy to reach, located between the landscapes of the Rhaetian Alps and the Bresciano plane, the skiing area of Mount Maniva presently has more than 40 km of tracks. And among the delicacies of the mountain cuisine, the variety of winter sports to choose, the safety and hospitable nature of the structures, which please the whole family, it has nothing to envy from the most famous skiing resorts.

CROCEVIA
PASSO MANIVA

Described by its actors, the Maniva crossing is presently a crossroad between the past and the future, nature and history, tourism and tradition. A route for cycling, a very well-maintained skiing area and a compulsory halt for the summer pastures.

BAGÒSS

Primo Stagnoli is the milkman that shows us the summer production of Bagòss, the Bagolino cheese, at Bruffione cabin. Fire and wood and fresh cow’s milk are used, continuing an ancient tradition. Bagòss is matured for an average for 24 months and becomes an extraordinary cheese to serve on the table.

BAGOLINO

Bagossi is the name of the inhabitants of Bagolino, a town in the high Bresciano in Caffaro valley. One of them is the historian Luca Ferremi, who guides us in discovering the country. An Alpine community that enjoys a territory rich in history (due to its special strategic position) in famous local products and in touristic activities.

THE BAGOLINO
CARNIVAL

The Bagolino carnival is a rare and precious moment in Italian folklore.
Since 1500, it has been maintained due to the isolated position of the country and the passion of its inhabitants, who have been handing it down from generation to generation. It became more and more famous, catching the attention of people studying ethnology. The holiday includes two different events, animated by the elegant figures of Balarì (dancers and musicians) and by the grotesque figures of Maschér (the masks).

CHIODO D’ORO
GOLDEN SPIKE

On the modern international geologic scale, each limit between the subdivisions of the various periods must be defined as a unique global reference point. This point is called GSSP (Global Stratigraphic Section and Point) or “golden spike” for short, which symbolically indicates the exact position of the limit.
Historian Luca Ferremi guides us in discovering the geologic site of Romanterra closed to Mount Maniva, which, in 2005, was chosen as reference point for the limit between Anisico and Ladinico planes (for the representative nature of the surfaces, for its fossils and for the precision in dating the layers.) In general, Valle del Caffaro has almost unique geologic features. The fossils in Romanterra have traces of typical animals for a relatively deep sea in the environment of the Italian Alpine sector and include rests of amonoids and bivalve shells, useful in establishing the age of the various layers. Additionally, one can find the remains of vertebrates, such as bones of ichthyosaurs (water reptiles) and fish.
